“I am over the moon that Micah and Jae have made it possible to buy beef directly from our local ranchers. I was able to meet the rancher I bought the beef from, Robert Martinez. I was very impressed with his integrity and interest in how we like the beef.” ~ Ananda S.

MARTINEZ FAMILY RANCH

Robert Martinez, a founding member of the Rios del Norte Co-op, is the owner and manager of the Martinez Family Ranch, and has been providing local beef to Farmhouse Café and School lunch program since 2014.  His ranch located in Ranchitos and has been in operation in New Mexico for 7 generations. He is practicing regenerative agriculture and seeded 15 acres of pasture with a no-till drill this spring.  The cattle are primarily Angus with some Hereford and Gelvieh influence to produce flavorful beef. They never use growth hormones and all the cattle eat is grass and hay. They harvest the calves once they are about 7 to 8 months old. The resulting beef is tender and tasty because of their young age and the lush Taos grass they enjoy.

Roberts cows will be some of the first get butchered. He is currently finding and vetting other local grass fed and finished cattle that he will stand behind going into the Rios del Norte Farm and Ranch Co-op’s Direct from Ranch to Family program.

These cattle are coming from these local, allied ranchers:
Pat Pacheco
Virgil Martinez
Robert Martinez
Roberto Martinez
Leroy Graham
Norby Vigil
Monte Chacon

AIRE and the Rios del Norte Farm and Ranch Co-op are marketing this direct sale program, from Rancher to Family, to support our local ranchers in this challenging time.

A limited quantity of sides are available for purchase, and processing dates are set at Mel’s Processing Plant in Romeo, Colorado. Families will purchase the beef directly from the Rancher and receive beef processed into custom cuts.

Our goal is to establish a local market and a vertically integrated model of direct purchase and custom processing to insure a continuous supply of local beef in anticipation of a growing market of “beef to table” institutional purchases.
